openSolaris

  • Listening to: Siddharta- Petrolea
  • Watching: Trainspotting ;)
  • Drinking: water
I tu mam do was parę pytań.

-------------------------------------------

And so... the next episode of my experiments
In short time I want Install in my computer Solaris operating system. And I have few questions for you people. Somebody use it? It is good system? Is more different than Linux? Which distro is good for beginner? In my dvd I have these thre distros: Nexenta, Belenix and Schillix. I know that, Solaris is another Unix system, but have many difference than for example Linux. I started live cd, but I dont good which distro it was. and I think graphic environment was little old- KDE 3.5.1 or 3.1 :( What is your opinion? Install that? or wait with that?

Btw. I ask becouse sites in Polish internet is not many :( but I dont look much ;) And I dont know what I must doing. Maybe you have any solutions, e-books etc. for Solaris? which you could send me to my e-mail adres (Please only in Englisch, Polish, and German- but its not my favourite language ;) ) I will read it in my free time. And I will be very grateful :)

Sorry for my Englisch, but I write this note fast

Thanks for the :+fav:!
I would personally recommend openSUSE Linux (SUSE website: www.opensuse.org). It comes with the latest KDE4 desktop environment, which is absolutely beautiful; as well as coming in many translations, including English, German, and I believe Polish. I do all my artwork and photo editing with gimp under SUSE. Very easy to use, Yast allows you to do most administrative tasks that you would normally have to use a command line for, such as installing and configuring hardware.

Yeahh Suse is my favourite distro. It is in Polish language offcourse. I like this operating system, but latest version- 11.1 is a little bit mistake for me. Speed of new KDE under os 11.1 is really slow and sometimes I have slide show ;) So I decide back to Mandriva 2009. Its sad becouse I really like suse- now is the best for my laptop, I dont like Gnome and older KDE version. So I decide this step

Btw. amarok wallpaper is really great for me :)

I was disappointed with 11.1 too. Mandriva with KDE4 runs faster than Suse11.1?

Much better. New Suse its a turtle, Mandriva is road runner :) If you have a lot of memory in hdd you can install Mandriva to comparize this two operating system, and then You can choose one. For me new MDV rulesss :)
